There are two times in Baekhyun's life where he falls in love.
The first time is when he wanders into a different practice room and sees a boy standing in one corner, looking out of the window. He is slightly bathed by the light that filters in through the shutters. The boy notices him and looks up. He smiles and Baekhyun's breath is taken away.
Baekhyun learns his name as Jongin and they become friends. They learn to sing and dance side-by-side, go out for some ddukbokki on late nights, and walk back to the dorms together. Baekhyun takes Jongin's hand when he offers and accepts it as a sign of friendship because, really, there's no place for love in dirty and sweaty practice rooms where they've signed their life away.
But Baekhyun is never one to stand in the sidelines. He isn't one to just sit in the backseat or just become an audience to his life. He sure isn't going to allow it to dance in front of him without him doing something about it. So, one day, he pushes Jongin against a wall and kisses him.
Jongin kisses him back.
Baekhyun then feels life getting together for him. Things suddenly feel like they're getting into place. Because when Jongin secretly takes his hand and smiles, everything just starts making sense.
And then EXO happens.

The second time Baekhyun falls in love, Jongin is Kai. Kai is standing in the middle of the stage, fully bathed by the spotlight that he's always meant to stand in. And, just as the music starts to play, Kai looks at him. He doesn't smile, but Baekhyun's breath is taken away anyway.
Baekhyun thinks Kai is so much more different than Jongin. Kai never chooses to sing and dance beside him, never goes out with him for ddukkbokki even during the day, and never walks anywhere with him. Kai has D.O. for that now (and because the company prefers fake Kai/D.O. than anything remotely as real as Jongin/Baekhyun and because dreams are more important than anything). There is no hand for Baekhyun to hold anymore.
Baekhyun never kisses Kai and Kai doesn't care.
Baekhyun is never one to stand in the sidelines. He isn't one to just sit in the backseat or just become an audience to his life. But, for once, he does. He stands aside and sits in the audience.
And, just like everyone else, he watches his life dance in front of his eyes.
