“WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?!” Taeyeon murderously asked the hairstylist.

“But I—,” the hairstylist began fearfully.

Jessica allowed the hairstylist to run away and took over. “You look good,” she told Taeyeon.

“You’re look amazing, Taeyeon!” Tiffany gushed, smiling happily, clapping her hands.

“I look like—I look—,” Taeyeon struggled.

“Emo?” Jessica filled in for her, admiring Taeyeon’s dark locks. “I think so, too. Since you’ve been so emo these days… now you even look the part.” She smiled.

“I knew I should have never agreed to this,” Taeyeon grumbled angrily. “You said you were just going to put highlights in my hair.” She stood up and removed the salon cloth on her and threw it on the seat. “I should’ve never agreed to go with you guys at all.”

Tiffany and Jessica followed her out of the salon.

“You really do look amazing, though,” Jessica said, ignoring her tantrums. “Boys wouldn’t know what hit them when they see you.”

“I don’t want to attract boys,” Taeyeon retorted.

“Fine then,” Jessica said. “I’m pretty sure Kyuhyun would drop dead when he sees you.” Tiffany gasped.

Taeyeon stopped walking and turned to face them. “Jessica, you’re really pushing my limits here. I agreed to go out with you since you so nicely said that I was just going to mope around. You never told me that you were going to do a makeover on me.”

“You wouldn’t have agreed to it if I told you,” Jessica responded.

“At least I would’ve been prepared,” Taeyeon replied in defeat.

“Look, a way to get over a breakup is to start over,” Jessica began nicely. “This is one of the ways to do that, a makeover. You’re on your way to become a different person now. You can leave the old Taeyeon behind.”

Taeyeon turned around and began walking again. “Can we go home now?”

“Siwon and some of the guys are going bowling in a while, do you want to join them?” Tiffany asked carefully.

Great. Another activity that she disliked. Bowling. But since Tiffany and Jessica—even though she really wished she didn’t go to such lengths as changing her hair color—had been so nice and patient with her, she didn’t want to be a burden. “Whatever,” Taeyeon answered.

Tiffany grinned. “I’m going to go and call him,” she said, immediately dialing her boyfriend’s number.

As Tiffany talked to Siwon on the phone, Jessica watched as Taeyeon stared into space. Again. She did that a lot as they went around the mall. She was pretty sure that the reason why she didn’t see what was being done to her hair was because of this. She spaced out too much.

“Hey,” Jessica said, nudging her gently. “I’m sorry about your hair.”

Taeyeon sighed. “It’s fine. I suppose you’re right. I should start moving on.”

“You don’t have to if you don’t want to,” Jessica reminded her.

“What do you mean?” Taeyeon asked, looking at her.

“I know it’s none of my business, but I can tell that you’re still in love with him,” Jessica went on. “You can give him another chance, you know.”

“It’s not that simple,” Taeyeon quietly said.

“Actually it is,” Jessica countered gently. “You want to be with him. He’s dying to be with you again. Why make things so complicated?”

“The thing is… I just don’t feel that he does,” Taeyeon told her sadly. “And then there’s this other thing,” she continued, thinking about Eunhyuk.

“Taeyeon,” Jessica began.

“Let’s stop talking about this,” Taeyeon abruptly interrupted. She turned to Tiffany, who had just ended her conversation with Siwon.

“Let’s go,” Tiffany said, grinning. “They’re meeting up at the food court. Donghae’s there.” She smiled teasingly at Jessica, who smiled a little. Then she turned to Taeyeon. “Don’t worry about being the third wheel. Lots of people are coming.”

“Let’s just go,” Taeyeon said, leading the way to the food court.

“Would you stop fidgeting? It’s not cool,” Hyoyeon scolded Donghae.

“And you think you’re cool, pretending not to fidget?” Donghae shot back.

“Will you two just calm down?” Seohyun civilly told both of them. She turned to Donghae. “I’m sure Jessica’s arriving soon. Siwon did say that they’re already here.” Then she turned to Hyoyeon. “I’m sure Shindong won’t stand you up. You did confirm about five times.” Seohyun noticed Siwon looking around for someone. “Not you too?” she said exasperatedly.

“I’m waiting, not fidgeting,” Siwon announced.

“Because pacing back and forth does not mean fidgeting,” Hyoyeon snickered.

“I really hope Shindong stands you up,” Siwon muttered.

“I heard that,” Hyoyeon responded, glaring at him. Suddenly she stood up. “Hey!”

“Hyo,” Eunhyuk said, arriving, looking confused. “What are you doing here?”

“What are you doing here?” Hyoyeon replied.

“Shindong told me to come. He said something about bowling,” Eunhyuk said.

“You’re in the right place,” Siwon said, standing up and offering to shake his hand. “Siwon.”

“Eunhyuk,” Eunhyuk said, shaking his hand and Donghae’s. They had never officially met, even though they were Sunny and Taeyeon’s friends. “So you guys go bowling?” He looked at the two guys then at Seohyun and Hyoyeon.

“It’s something that we do,” Hyoyeon said. “You’re lucky to be invited.” She smirked at him.

Instead of looking annoyed like the others thought he would be, he smiled. “Let’s see what you’ve got.”

Soon, Sunny and Sungmin arrived, holding hands, grinning like idiots.

“Oh you’re here,” Sungmin greeted Eunhyuk.

“Why didn’t you tell us you were coming? We could’ve gone together,” Sunny added.

“I didn’t even know who was going to be here,” Eunhyuk responded with a shrug. “Shindong just told me to show up.”

“Is he coming?” Hyoyeon then asked.

“I don’t think so,” Eunhyuk said, looking at her. “If he was, he would’ve been here already.” He watched her carefully. “But I could… call him and bully him into coming if you want.”

Hyoyeon laughed. “It’s alright. Besides, I’ve always thought that he was the one who bullies you and not the other way around.”

“You hurt me,” Eunhyuk said, putting a hand to his chest. “Really.” Hyoyeon began laughing again.

Everyone exchanged confused looks. Since when were Eunhyuk and Hyoyeon friends?

Donghae, not caring about the whole thing, then stood up. “They’re here.” He smiled as Jessica waved at him.

Eunhyuk’s eyes grew bigger when he saw who Jessica was with, although he didn’t recognize her at first. He looked at the others worriedly. He didn’t know that everyone was going to be there.

“Sorry we took so long,” Tiffany said apologetically after giving Siwon a kiss.

“Yeah, we had to drag Taeyeon here,” Jessica said, rolling her eyes.

“Oh, I didn’t realize that this was Taeyeon,” Donghae said, truly surprised, giving her a second look. Her hair was really different.

“Your hair’s really cool,” Hyoyeon said, moving nearer to her to have a closer look.

“You look really pretty,” Seohyun seconded.

“Thanks,” Taeyeon mumbled. She still hadn’t seen Eunhyuk, who was glaring at Siwon, since she kept on staring at the floor for most of the time.

Eunhyuk wondered what he should do. He didn’t think it was a good idea for them to see each other now. He, especially, wasn’t ready. Thinking quickly, he decided to leave without telling anyone. But before he could escape, Seohyun called out to him.

“Eunhyuk, where are you going?” she asked.

This caught Taeyeon’s attention. She looked up and searched for him. Eunhyuk had paused and turned to face them, trying to hide the sheepish expression on his face.

“I was just… bathroom,” Eunhyuk lied. He glanced at Taeyeon, who was looking at him, and hurriedly left.

Taeyeon stood up, watching him walk away. What was he doing there? She looked at the others, who were giving her confused looks. “I’ll just, uh, I’ll be back,” she lamely said and went after him.

“Those two are weird,” Hyoyeon voiced out. “Didn’t they even know that they were both going to be here?”

Taeyeon left the food court and looked around for where Eunhyuk might have gone. After seeing him again after, what seemed like, forever, she realized how stupid it was that they weren’t talking. They were best friends. They’re supposed to be able to talk about everything and anything. She walked around for a bit, but she couldn’t find him.

As she walked back to the food court, she couldn’t help but think how much she missed him. If anyone could understand her, it was him. Why did she ever doubt that he wouldn’t understand her? Why did she ever think of avoiding him?

“Taeyeon?”

She stopped walking and turned around, thinking that Eunhyuk had found her. But the hope faded quickly. It should’ve dawned on her that it wasn’t Eunhyuk’s voice.

“What are you doing here?” Kyuhyun asked, looking at her as if studying her. Her new hair surprised him, but he felt very happy to see her.

“I’m, uh, with friends,” she responded, looking away. She turned to go without saying anything.

But he went into step with her. “Taeyeon,” he began.

“Now’s not really a good time,” she told him vaguely.

“But I just—when are we going to be able to talk?” he persisted, watching her closely. “Never mind.” He noticed that she was bothered, and he didn’t think it was because he was there. She looked bothered even before she saw him.

He quietly followed her towards the food court.

“Taeyeon, there you are!” Tiffany’s voice reached them. “Eunhyuk’s been looking for you. He’s…” She trailed away when she saw who she was with. “What is he doing here?”

“Oh I invited him,” Siwon said. Everyone looked at him with shocked expressions. He turned to Tiffany. “You told me to be nice to him.”

“But I didn’t mean…” Tiffany sighed.

Eunhyuk stood there, frozen. He had returned to the food court, thinking that it was beyond stupid already how much they were avoiding each other. He decided that it was the perfect time for them to talk. But now… He turned to Tiffany.

“So he’s invited to this thing?” Eunhyuk asked.

“I’m sorry, Eunhyuk,” Tiffany said apologetically. “There’s been a misunderstanding.”

“I think I’m going to go,” Eunhyuk quietly said. He walked over to Hyoyeon, told her that he was leaving and walked away.

Sunny approached Taeyeon. “Taeng, what’s going on with you and Eunhyuk?” she asked confusedly.

“You did what?!” Sunny and Sungmin chorused, astonishment reflected on their faces. They exchanged a mixture of horrified and amused looks before turning to Taeyeon again.

“Did I hear it right?” Sungmin clarified slowly. “You and Hyuk…” He couldn’t even say it.

“Taeyeon-ah, when did this happen?” Sunny demanded. “How can you not tell me about it?”

“Me too,” Sungmin added. “We’re your best friends.”

“I’m your sister,” Sunny pointed out.

“Because I know this is how you guys would react,” Taeyeon explained, her cheeks feeling hot. She was pretty sure she looked like a red tomato at the moment. But there was really no point in hiding it from them anymore. Who was she going to talk to about it if not them?

After quite a long silence, Sunny asked, “Well how was it?”

Taeyeon looked at her. “How was what?”

“The kiss,” Sunny reminded her, giggling a little.

“Er,” Taeyeon muttered, glancing at Sungmin, who was trying hard not to smile. “It was… okay, I guess. I don’t really remember.”

Sungmin cleared his throat. “I can go…” he offered.

“No, it’s fine,” Taeyeon said, waving her hand dismissively. “Hasn’t he said anything?”

“I didn’t even know that you guys weren’t talking,” Sungmin shared, scratching his head.

“Me neither,” Sunny said, pouting. “Taeng, what happened? How did it come to this?”

Taeyeon took a deep breath. “He was being nice. He was comforting me,” she reasoned. “I think…” She shook her head. “It’s my fault. I wasn’t thinking straight. It’s a mistake. He probably thinks the same way.”

“Are you sure?” Sunny wanted to know, looking closely at her sister. Sungmin gave his girlfriend a questioning look. “It’s just… did he tell you that it was a mistake? Have you even talked?”

“No,” Taeyeon told them, shaking her head. “We haven’t had that chance.” She buried her face in her hands. “Everything’s just so messed up. I don’t know what to do.”

“Why are you confused?” Sungmin inquired curiously.

“I kissed my best friend!” Taeyeon exclaimed, looking up at them.

“That’s not necessarily a bad thing,” Sunny reminded her, glancing at Sungmin, who smiled at her.

Taeyeon rolled her eyes. Of course it was a good thing for both of them. “Eunhyuk and I are not you guys,” she mumbled.

“Isn’t it so easy to fall in love with your best friend?” Sunny said, smiling warmly.

“But I’m not in love with my best friend,” Taeyeon blurted out. Sungmin and Sunny worriedly glanced at each other. “I love Eunhyuk with all my heart, but I just don’t love him like I do…” she trailed away uncomfortably.

“Like you do Kyuhyun,” Sunny finished for her. When Taeyeon didn’t say anything, she went on, “You know what you should do?”

“What?” Taeyeon eagerly asked. She was desperate for people telling her what to do. She was tired of thinking.

“Go to Eunhyuk’s house,” Sunny began, glaring at her sister when she frowned. “This is something you have to do, Taeng. You have to talk to him. How are you going to resolve anything if you’re not going to at least talk about what happened?”

Taeyeon frowned. “Fine,” she grumbled. “Anything else?”

“Yes,” Sunny implored. “After talking to Eunhyuk, talk to Kyuhyun. Please.”

“I really don’t see how that’s connected to this,” Taeyeon responded, frowning even more.

“That has everything to do with this,” Sunny retorted firmly. “Everything goes back to your thing with Kyuhyun when I think about it.” She looked thoughtful for a second then she turned to her sister. “Anyway, don’t you think it’s about time? It’s obvious that he’s still in love with you. What more does he have to do to prove it?”

“Just more,” was Taeyeon’s answer.
