[PG-13] Unexpected Song (3/?)

Title: Unexpected Song
Characters: Heechul, OC, Super Junior
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Romance, Friendship, Comedy, Drama

I didn’t dare go with Hae Won to the next two music shows after that day. I wasn’t sure why I didn’t want to, but there was just this feeling that made me think I shouldn’t show myself to that angelic Super Junior member for a while. It may sound like I was being arrogant. The thought of a Super Junior member flirting with me just made me feel uncomfortable. More so now that I got hired as an assistant make-up artist for the group. I would now be unable to avoid him.

“Are you feeling okay?” Hae Won asked me. “You’ve been fidgety all afternoon.”

How could I not be fidgety when we were standing outside Super Junior’s dorm? My sister insisted that, since I was going to be a part of the team, I should immediately meet each and every one of them and that time was none other than now. She claimed that it would be better to get acquainted as soon as possible so as to lessen the awkward moments.

“I’m fine,” I lied, playing with my bracelet. I became really irrational when I was nervous and uncomfortable about something. This was one of those moments. Even if it seemed almost unprofessional, I really didn’t want to be there at the moment. My thoughts flew to Min Young. She would definitely enjoy being in my position right now. How I wish we could trade places.

Hae Won gave me another weird look and rang the doorbell. There was a scuffle and the sound of the door being unlocked. When it finally opened, a guy with jet-black hair with side bangs peeked out. He smiled a really cute smile when he saw that it was us.

“Noona!” he greeted, hugging Hae Won.

“Hey,” Hae Won greeted back, chuckling. When he gave me a curious look, she introduced us. “Sungmin, this is my sister, the one I was telling you about.”

“Hye Rin!” Sungmin instantaneously recalled. He turned to me and gave me the nicest smile. I found myself smiling back and saying hello. He was one of those persons you couldn’t help but like just because he seemed so nice, sweet and friendly. “It’s nice to finally meet you! Noona always talks about you.”

“Really?” I responded as we walked inside the dorm, glancing at my sister, who merely beamed. “All good things, I hope.”

“Nothing but good things,” Sungmin confirmed. “Hey guys!” he called the attention of the other boys in the room. Most were sprawled on the couch and space in front of the television, while others were hanging out on the table beside the kitchen, eating. “This is Hye Rin!” he announced. “Noona’s sister. The one she’s always telling us about.”

“Hye Rin!” One of the guys who were seated on the couch stood up and scurried over to me. “It’s so nice to finally meet you!” Without warning, he gave me a hug.

“Hi,” I responded with a laugh, hugging him back.

“I’m Ryeowook, Super Junior’s resident cook,” he introduced himself with a flourish.

“You’re not a member?” I asked. Laughter echoed in the dorm.

“Actually, he’s a member and their cook,” Hae Won corrected from the kitchen.

“Oh, I’m so sorry,” I hurriedly apologized, giving Ryeowook a bow. “I really didn’t know.”

“You don’t know how refreshing that is to hear,” a guy with cute dimples and blonde hair said, extending his hand to me. “I’m Leeteuk.”

“The leader,” I added. It was one of the things I wanted to remember when I read about them.

His eyes lit up at this and grinned like a little boy. “Yes,” he confirmed. Grabbing my hand, he introduced me to everybody else.

There was Siwon, the handsome, model-like guy. I couldn’t help but think about how flawless he looked. His face structure and his smile and his toned body… If I were one of those girls who went boy-crazy, I would definitely be slobbering over him. It didn’t help that he was such a gentleman.

There was Shindong, the chubby but very cute and warm member. He gave me a big bear hug when we were introduced, which I really liked. He seemed like such a nice and fun guy. I was pretty sure that if I wanted to laugh, I would go to him.

There was Yesung, the intensely quiet and charming fellow. He introduced me to his turtle, as well, which I oddly found endearing. Leeteuk told me that he could have a weird aura around him sometimes, but I really didn’t see it since his smiles seemed so sincere and pleasant.

There was Donghae and Eunhyuk, the two energetic boys, who really confused me. They kept on talking at the same time about something I couldn’t understand that Leeteuk had to cover both their mouths just to stop them from blabbering. They were both so adorable, though, like twins. It seemed like they had a bond that they didn’t have with anyone else.

There was Kyuhyun, the quiet and charismatic but mischievous magnae of the group. He had this boyish smile and prince-like quality about him that I couldn’t ignore.

Throughout all the introductions, I, and some of the other members, realized that we’d seen each other before, in the elevators.

They also told me about Kibum, who was focusing on his acting. He visited quite often, they said, and hoped that I would get to meet him soon. There was also Kangin, who was enlisting for the army in July. And then there was Hankyung. They didn’t say much about him, but it was very apparent that they missed him.

“That’s about it—oh Heechul,” Leeteuk remembered. “Where is that guy?”

“He met up with Mithra hyung for lunch,” Donghae said. “He’s probably on his way back.”

“Do you want anything to eat?” Ryeowook then asked me. He pulled me away from Leeteuk’s side and brought me to the kitchen. “I can cook whatever it is that you want to eat.”

He really was so sweet. “I’m okay, really. I just ate with unnie before we went here.” He pouted, which made me laugh. “Really, oppa, I’m fine. I’m curious, though, what kinds of food do you often make for your members?”

“Ramyun and Kimchi fried rice,” he answered with a grin. “They’re easy to please actually. But my Kimchi fried rice is really good so they’re always requesting for it.”

“I haven’t made Kimchi fried rice in so long… would you teach me how to make it some time?” I asked.

His eyes brightened at this. It was like seeing a little boy get Christmas presents from Santa Claus. “Of course!” he happily agreed, clapping his hands. “I could teach you now if you want.”

“Ya! Don’t keep Hye Rin all to yourself!” Eunhyuk yelled from the living room.

Before I knew it, he was at my side and pulling me back to sit at the couch, in between Kyuhyun and Donghae. Sungmin was seated on the floor with Yesung. Eunhyuk took his place on Donghae’s other side.

“Do you have a favorite Super Junior member?” Eunhyuk asked curiously.

As Hae Won chuckled, I looked embarrassed. “I really don’t,” I admitted regretfully. “But my best friend, Min Young, is a big fan of yours,” I told Donghae, turning to him.

He lit up at this. “Really?”

“Yeah,” I said. “I hope you don’t mind if I introduce you to her when she arrives from Singapore.”

“I’d be happy to meet her,” Donghae eagerly said. “Your friend is our friend.” This really touched me for some reason.

“So tell us more about yourself, Hye Rin,” Sungmin said, resting his chin on his hands, looking expectantly at me.

It was kind of weird that they were so interested about me when I thought myself a very boring person. My time in Singapore was solely based on studying and more studying. I had to laugh when I saw them, looking at me, waiting for my answer.

“Well… I’m 21 and—.” Cheers from the boys interrupted me. I curiously looked at Sungmin, waiting for an explanation.

“We’ve always wanted a little sister,” Sungmin told me. “We don’t see our siblings often and our dongsaengs in the company have been so busy so it’s really nice that you’ll be around a lot.”

“I don’t like being babied, though,” I warned them.

“Too bad,” some of them chorused. Even though I frowned, I couldn’t help but think of how these boys would be in terms of taking care of me like they all seemed they wanted to do. They’re idols, after all, very busy and almost always stressed.

“So what else? Tell us more about you,” Yesung prodded.

“What do you want to know?” I inquired.

“Do you have a boyfriend?” Donghae blurted out. This earned him a slap on the head from Eunhyuk and a slap on the leg from Sungmin. “What? It’s just a question,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck and leg.

“You don’t have to answer that,” Yesung told me.

“It’s fine,” I replied with a giggle. “I don’t have a boyfriend, actually. Will you find me one?” I joked.

“I heard that,” Hae Won said. She was now watching television with Shindong and Siwon.

“I’m just kidding,” I said. “I don’t think I have the time for a boyfriend. With being your make-up artist and studying, I don’t think I’d have the time.”

“She’s only saying that because she’s never had a boyfriend before,” Hae Won continued.

“Unnie!” I nearly yelped. I was pretty sure my cheeks were very red. The boys merely chuckled and didn’t seem to mind, though.

“Whoever your first boyfriend will be, they’ll have to go through us first,” Kyuhyun cutely said.

“Why?” I teased.

“As explained earlier, Hae Won noona’s always treated us like her brothers so that would make us siblings automatically,” Eunhyuk enlightened me. “So Kyuhyun’s right. That guy, whoever that will be, will have to go through us first.”

I looked around and realized that they were actually serious about it. It was touching. They had just met me and yet they were treating me like one of their own. All of a sudden, all the misconceptions I had about idols groups and about them being fake was starting to fly out of the window.

As we were talking, all the nervousness and apprehension I was feeling before had gone away. I hadn’t even realized it. They were all just so nice and comfortable to be around that I felt silly about how I had felt. Maybe it was also because of the fact that he wasn’t around. I didn’t have to face him yet.

Suddenly, Leeteuk stood up from his position on the dining table and walked to the door. “Chullie’s here!”

By then, I had realized that member I hadn’t met yet was probably the angel. I felt my posture stiffen, which I was positive Sungmin noticed. I was a really bad liar. I’d been told a lot of times that I was an open book, which I really hated because that meant that I could never keep stuff to myself.

“Hyung, you should meet Hye Rin,” Donghae said, pulling me off the couch and towards him. Even if I wanted to resist, I didn’t want to cause unnecessary drama. So I let him drag me to face him.

“Hye Rin?”

And there he was. The angel.

“Hyung, this is Hye Rin, Hae Won noona’s dongsaeng,” Donghae obliviously introduced us. “Hye Rin, this is Heechul hyung. You can call him Cinderella if you want.”

The Cinderella nickname vaguely registered in my head as I looked at him. He had that smirk on his face and the same twinkle in his eye when we first met. I felt myself go red in the face under his intense gaze. I really didn’t know what was happening to me.

“Hye Rin,” my name left his lips. He took my hand in his and gave it a kiss. “It’s nice to meet you.”
