You smile as you watch your friends from college talk to each other like they hadn’t seen each other in ages, which you hadn’t. It’s been almost two years since you last saw each other and was just catching up now because the school reunion’s coming up. None of you wanted to share each other with other people from your old school. You all wanted to get the juicy details of each other’s lives before anyone else got the scoop.

Suddenly, the attention shifts towards you. They’re all expectantly looking at you, waiting for an answer.

“What was the question?” you ask, chuckling sheepishly.

They all chuckle, all not surprised that you weren’t paying attention. They were talking about relationships, about their boyfriends, whom they’re so in love with.

“Of course you still don’t have a boyfriend,” one of your friends says. The rest of your friends agree.

“What makes you say that?” you ask defensively.

“Because you’re you,” your other friend says this time. “You reject every guy that comes along. You’ve never even gone on dates.”

“I’ve gone on dates,” you say at once. And before you thought about what you were going to say, you blurt out, “And I have a boyfriend.”

This definitely got their attention. After a lot of prodding and pushing, you finally agree to bring him to the reunion.

There’s one tiny problem, though.

You don’t really have a boyfriend.

You watch as the boys play around with the streamers and other party decorations in the living room. It looked like they were having a lot of fun as you hear their loud and rowdy laughter. Donghae and Kyuhyun were making fun of Eunhyuk, who was already wrapped in colored paper from head to foot, while Shindong and Sungmin stood by, laughing. You unknowingly smile and lean against the wall.

You were preparing for a party and you had put a couple of the boys in charge of the decorations, while the rest of the boys took care of the food. It was for Kangin. He was leaving for the army tomorrow and you wanted to make it memorable for him.

And just as soon as you smiled, it was gone.

The walls were beige and bare in the room they had asked me to wait in. The chairs were properly placed under the tables and the mirrors that reflected the emptiness of the room were clear of any dust. I sat on the black, leather couch, my hands clasped tightly together to keep them from shaking any further. Taking a deep breath, I leaned back on the couch and tried to relax. But I just couldn’t.

How could I, when I had just experienced something that I had only imagined in dreams and had only written down in fan fiction?

There was no way I could keep myself calm.

I could still hear his voice in my ear, see his movements in front of me, and smell his distinct scent like he was right beside me. My skin still tingled where he had touched me.

I shivered and shook my head. I wondered if I was dreaming.

The wind was cold against his warm skin as he stepped out onto the balcony. Wrapping his dark coat tighter around him, he leaned on the cool metal bars and gazed down at the moving cars and blinking lights. The stars were shining brightly on the blanket of the midnight blue sky. The night is quiet and calm. Too quiet for his liking.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Bowing his head, he squeezed his eyes and willed himself to think of happier thoughts. An all too familiar song started playing in the background bringing back all too familiar feelings. He lifted his head up and looked up at the sky, clasping his hands together, willing himself to forget.
